The 2019 Fall Rally was held at the Traverse Bay RV Resort on Friday, September 20 to Sunday, September 22, 2019. Hosts: John and Pat Daubenmier & Dick and Carol Klein.
We had a wonderful time with unseasonably warm weather on Friday and Saturday. Mother Nature did not treat us well on Sunday, as many who were leaving had to do so in the rain. Fortunately, it was a warm rain!
Many arrived at the resort early to enjoy the Traverse City area. On Thursday, we had an unofficial group dinner at the Bay View Inn, which was enjoyed by all.
By Friday, we had 13 coaches present. Social hour was held at Dick and Carol Klein’s site. As usual, there were plenty of appetizers and lots of socializing. Friday night, we enjoyed dinner at Sleder’s Family Tavern in the Slabtown area. Sleder’s is the oldest , continuously operating restaurant in Michigan. We enjoyed a historical presentation by Maggi Steel from the Traverse City Visitors Bureau. Maggi shared fun facts about the history of Traverse City and the Slabtown Area. She also provided us with plenty of options for exploring Traverse City. Following dinner, the group gathered at Traverse Bay’s Main Clubhouse to enjoy a movie.
We began Saturday morning with breakfast at the Omelette Shoppe on Front Street. The Omelette Shoppe is a Traverse City icon. No one left hungry! After breakfast, each had the day to explore Traverse City on their own. Our members enjoyed a variety of activities: some shopped downtown, others toured wineries, some spent their time on a walking tour of the former Traverse City State Hospital and still others toured Sleeping Bear Dunes. Saturday evening we enjoyed dinner which was catered by Spanglish. After dinner, we played a fun National Parks and Monuments game, as well as a Road Sign game. Both were great fun and made us think. Following games we enjoyed dessert. We were so pleased to welcome new member John Herthel and guests Lloyd and Karen Gillette
Sunday, we enjoyed a breakfast of quiche, fruit, a variety of muffins and the all-important coffee. With hugs and good-byes, many battled the rain to hook-up and hit the road. A good time was had by all.
